Offshore construction of the 400MW BARD Offshore 1 wind farm began in April 2010, when the BARD Group started building the far‑offshore project about 90–100km north of Borkum in water depths of up to 40m. This marked the start of physical works for Germany’s first commercial-scale offshore wind farm on the high seas using 80 BARD 5.0 turbines on tripile foundations.
