BalWin5 2.2 GW ±525 kV HVDC bipole export cable system (sea and land) linking the offshore converter platform in the German North Sea to the onshore converter station at Bremen‑Werderland, total route length about 325 km with two parallel power cables.
LS Cable & System is part of a consortium with Jan De Nul and Denys that received a Letter of Allocation from TenneT for the BalWin5 2.2 GW offshore grid connection in the German North Sea. Under the LOA, LS Cable & System will manufacture the 525 kV HVDC export cable system, covering both offshore and onshore power cables linking the BalWin5 offshore converter station to the onshore converter station at Bremen‑Werderland. The total route length of the sea‑and‑land HVDC link is about 325 km and, with the bipole configuration using two parallel cables, this implies approximately 650 km of HVDC power cable to be produced. The consortium’s scope also includes transport, installation and testing of the cable system, with final contract signing expected in the fourth quarter of 2026 and commissioning planned for 2032.
