Asso.subsea was awarded a nearshore HVDC cable installation contract for TenneT’s BalWin4 offshore grid connection project in Germany, with Jan De Nul acting as the main contractor and TenneT as the end client. The scope covered transportation and nearshore installation of the HVDC cable bundle (2x HVDC power cables plus one metallic return cable and one fiber optic cable), including precision cable landing via beaching operations with spud cans, cable free-lay in intertidal zones, and wet storage of cable ends. Cable transport was planned from load-out ports in the Netherlands or Germany, with nearshore installation to be performed using the cable-laying vessel Atalanti. Installation for BalWin4 was scheduled to be executed in 2027.
