DELAYED +2yr (Apr 2026): Latest official and industry sources now state that BalWin2 is scheduled to go into operation in 2031, whereas our existing projection assumed commercial operations at the start of 2030. Amprion’s June 2025 press release on the start of production for the BalWin1/BalWin2 converter platforms says the two projects will be operational in 2030 and 2031, with BalWin2 identified as the later project in multiple trade-press summaries. OffshoreWind.biz (June 2025) likewise reports that BalWin1 and BalWin2 are planned to go into operation in 2030 and 2031. Given this consistent guidance and the complexity of a 2 GW HVDC connection, a 2031 COD for BalWin2 is more realistic than the previously assumed early‑2030 date. I therefore shift the commercial_operations_full_power milestone to year‑end 2031 (year‑level precision), aligned with the developer’s stated 2031 in‑service timeframe while recognising some schedule uncertainty within that year. --- BalWin2, one of Amprion’s two 2 GW BalWin offshore grid connection systems linking future offshore wind farms in the German North Sea BalWin cluster to the onshore grid, is planned to be put into operation as early as 2030. Together with BalWin1, it will transmit power from the BalWin cluster to grid connection points at Wehrendorf (Lower Saxony) and Westerkappeln (North Rhine-Westphalia), contributing to Germany’s offshore wind expansion targets and supplying green electricity to consumers in western and southern regions of the country.
