DELAYED +8mo (Apr 2026): Original projection assumed full commercial operation on 2030-01-01. Amprion’s June 25, 2024 press release now states that BalWin1 is planned to go into operation in 2030, without specifying a month, while a February 2, 2024 Renewables Now article quoting an Amprion spokesperson specifies commissioning in the third quarter of 2030. To align with this updated and more detailed guidance and to avoid an unrealistically early COD within 2030, the projection is shifted to the end of Q3 2030. Developer’s stated year (2030) is retained but the intra-year timing is adjusted to match the Q3 2030 expectation. --- BalWin1 (grid connection system NOR-9-1) is planned to enter full commercial operation in 2030, providing 2,000 MW of HVDC transmission capacity from the BalWin offshore wind cluster in the German North Sea to the Wehrendorf converter station in Lower Saxony. Once operational, this 2 GW link will be part of Germany’s new 2 GW standard offshore grid connections, supporting large-scale integration of offshore wind into the onshore transmission network.
