On 22 May 2025, the transmission system operators of Lithuania (Litgrid), Latvia (Augstsprieguma tīkls) and north-east Germany (50Hertz) submitted a joint application to the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E). The application seeks inclusion of the 2 GW Baltic Hub hybrid offshore electricity interconnection project in ENTSO-E’s 2026 Ten-Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP). Baltic Hub is planned as an approximately 600 km, 2 GW hybrid offshore connection linking Germany with the Baltic States and enabling integration of up to 2 GW of offshore wind capacity in Lithuania and Latvia, as well as cross-border electricity trading. Inclusion in the TYNDP is an important regulatory planning milestone, as TYNDP-listed projects can later qualify as EU Projects of Common Interest and become eligible for EU funding. The joint submission demonstrates coordinated regional support from the three TSOs for advancing Baltic Hub within the EU’s long-term electricity network development framework.
