Fugro was engaged by RWE to deliver Awel y Môr's principal offshore ground investigation campaign, executed from November 2023 to May 2024. Scope: 53 boreholes drilled over approximately 130 days at offshore substation and wind turbine generator locations within the proposed array area, plus laboratory testing and reporting on Mercia Mudstone subsurface geology. The campaign was conducted using a jack-up barge with bespoke testing methodologies to manage challenging winter Irish Sea metocean conditions, and supplements Fugro's earlier 2020 exploratory seabed survey for the project. Outputs informed turbine foundation engineering and form part of the project's pre-FID design basis ahead of the planned 2027 onshore construction start.
