On 9 May 2025 The Crown Estate announced it would proceed with its Capacity Increase Programme to amend the seabed rights of seven existing offshore wind farms, including Awel y Môr, enabling an additional 4.7 GW of generation capacity in aggregate across England and Wales. The programme followed a plan-level Habitats Regulations Assessment and was agreed by the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero on the basis of derogation with compensation measures. For Awel y Môr the programme provides the policy basis for amending the original 576 MW Agreement for Lease (signed 28 September 2020) toward the higher capacity scope subsequently supported by the project's January 2026 Contract for Difference award (775 MW at £91.20/MWh, 2024 prices). The other six projects benefitting from the same programme are Dudgeon Extension, Sheringham Shoal Extension, North Falls, Five Estuaries, Rampion 2 and Dogger Bank D.
