Evidence from PPC and IPTO financial reports shows the Nea Makri–Polypotamos 150 kV AC submarine and underground cable interconnection progressed through completion of submarine cable laying by 2014, and PPC's March 31, 2015 interim financial statements state that the electrical interconnection of "NEA MAKRI - POLYPOTAMOS" was expected to enter commercial operation in the third quarter of 2015. The project is now reported as an operational transmission link, with no later sources indicating further delay. On this basis, commercial operation at full power is taken as having occurred approximately in late Q3 2015.
On 14 May 2010, Greece’s Public Power Corporation (PPC) signed a €64 million turnkey contract with Nexans Norway AS to design, manufacture and install the 150 kV high‑voltage AC submarine and underground cable system between the Nea Makri substation in Attica and the Polypotamos substation on Evia, enabling transmission of around 400 MW of wind power from South Evia to Attica and reinforcing the electrification of eastern Attica.
