Multiple sources indicate that SEAS-NVE completed replacement of the old submarine power (and associated fibre) cables in Smålandsfarvandet, including the Askø–Lilleø cable, during 2014. SEAS-NVE materials and a 2013 report note that the subsea cable serving Askø, Lilleø and Femø would be replaced in 2014. A 6 October 2014 TV2 ØST article, citing an SEAS-NVE press release, reports that SEAS-NVE had begun establishing a new submarine cable to Askø and that in 2014 the sea cables Lolland–Askø, Askø–Lilleø and Lilleø–Femø would be established. Given the project’s operational status and these contemporaneous statements, it is reasonable to place cable installation completion for the Askø–Lilleø link in 2014, with year‑level precision.

Evidence from SEAS-NVE-related sources indicates that the submarine cable replacement programme in Smålandsfarvandet, which includes the Askø–Lilleø link, began in early autumn 2014. A 1 September 2014 news release from Vikingeskibsmuseet, issued in cooperation with SEAS-NVE, states that SEAS-NVE is "netop nu i gang med at udskifte søkablet til Askø" and that the cables connecting Lolland–Askø, Askø–Lilleø and Lilleø–Femø, all over 40 years old, are to be replaced around that time. This aligns with local coordination updates showing preparation and planning for laying new sea cables between Lolland–Askø, Askø–Lilleø and Lilleø–Femø in mid‑2014. On this basis, the start of cable installation for the Askø–Lilleø link is placed in October 2014 with month‑level precision.
