On 18 August 2016, Arkona moved from the planning to the construction phase when E.ON and Norway’s Statoil, each holding 50% of the project, laid the foundation stone for the 385 MW offshore wind farm at Sassnitz on the island of Rügen, marking the ceremonial start of onshore project construction activities for the wind farm located 35 km northeast of Rügen.
