Offshore foundation installation for the Arkona offshore wind farm began in late summer 2017, when E.ON installed the first of 60 monopile foundations in the German Baltic Sea using Van Oord’s heavy-lift vessel Svanen. The monopiles, supplied by EEW Special Pipe Constructions with transition pieces from Bladt Industries, are 81m long, driven up to 40m into the seabed in water depths of 23–37m, at a site about 35km northeast of Rügen Island.
