By 9 November 2017, all 60 monopile foundations for the 385MW Arkona offshore wind farm had been installed in the Baltic Sea ahead of schedule. The 1,200t, 81m-long monopiles, manufactured by EEW SPC and installed by Van Oord’s heavy-lift vessel Svanen, were driven up to 40m into the seabed following detailed 3D seismic investigations that optimised foundation positioning and design for the challenging heterogeneous subsoil.
