In early 2002, the Irish Minister for Marine and Natural Resources granted a foreshore lease for the Arklow Bank Windfarm, providing project-wide development consent for up to 200 turbines with a minimum export capacity of 520 MW on Arklow Bank. This foreshore lease underpinned construction of Arklow Bank Phase 1, including the 35 kV HVAC offshore export cable and associated submarine and underground cables connecting the 25 MW demonstrator wind farm to ESB Networks at the Arklow National Grid Substation, enabling the project’s transmission link from the offshore site to shore.
