By September 2016, Schleswig-Holstein Netz AG had completed laying a new 20 kV subsea cable between Norddorf on Amrum and Utersum on Föhr, replacing an ageing 1944 cable to secure Amrum’s electricity supply. The roughly 4.5 km cable, manufactured by Nexans and costing about EUR 2.15 million, was already installed and works were nearing completion so that the newly laid cable could be put into operation within the same week.
