By 13 May 2024, Amprion reports that its planned offshore hybrid interconnector projects with Energinet (Denmark) and Statnett (Norway) have been included in ENTSO-E’s Ten-Year Network Development Plan 2024, meaning the Amprion–Statnett hybrid interconnector concept is recognised within the EU-wide transmission planning framework. The listing reflects pre-feasibility work on cross-border hybrid schemes in the North Sea and supports further assessment of their technical and economic benefits.
By May 2024, following the MoU between Amprion and Statnett, hybrid interconnector projects involving these TSOs had been included in ENTSO-E’s Ten-Year Network Development Plan, and Amprion, Statnett and partners were conducting joint pre-feasibility studies to identify the most beneficial configurations for such projects. Statnett reports that dedicated task forces have been set up with its MoU partners, including Amprion, to investigate grid topologies and technical and market issues related to possible hybrid interconnectors in the North Sea.

Hybrid interconnector between Germany and Norway, Hybrid interconnector Norway-Sørvest F Windfarm-Continent (DK, DE, BE or UK)
On 16 November 2023, German TSO Amprion and Norwegian TSO Statnett signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Dortmund to investigate the feasibility of a hybrid interconnector for offshore wind between Germany and Norway. Under the MoU, the partners will evaluate technical and economic aspects, calculate and analyse joint energy scenarios, and assess how such a hybrid link—connecting both the two countries and offshore wind farms—could strengthen European security of supply and support the development of a North Sea offshore grid and EU climate targets.
