Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners plans for its Aminth interconnector, part of a 4.2 GW portfolio linking the UK with mainland Europe, to reach final investment decision (FID) in 2026, enabling progression towards planned operations between 2030 and 2032.
Ofgem confirmed its rejection of Aminth from the third cap and floor window on 12 November 2024. The rejection was due to deliverability concerns, specifically challenges obtaining a grid connection in the connecting country (Denmark). Aminth's grid connection agreement had been terminated as of August 2024, linked to the Danish Energy Agency's delay of the North Sea Energy Island timeline to 2036. No further responses or additional evidence were submitted by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners to support the project following Ofgem's minded-to rejection in March 2024. Without a cap and floor revenue regime, the project has no viable regulatory financing path in the UK.

Aminth Interconnector
Aminth's grid connection agreement in Denmark was terminated as of August 2024. The termination is linked to the Danish Energy Agency's delay of the North Sea Energy Island development timeline to 2036. Aminth was designed to connect GB to the Danish Energy Island, and the island's postponement removed the project's connection point. Ofgem cited this grid connection challenge as the primary deliverability concern in its November 2024 IPA rejection.
Aminth placed on hold following the termination of its grid connection agreement in Denmark as of August 2024, linked to the Danish Energy Agency delay of the North Sea Energy Island to 2036. Ofgem subsequently confirmed rejection of the cap and floor application in November 2024 due to deliverability concerns. Without a revenue regime or grid connection, the 1.4 GW GB-Denmark interconnector developed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners has no viable path to financing. CIP has not formally cancelled the project but has submitted no further evidence to support its progression.
The Aminth 1.4 GW GB–Denmark interconnector project submitted an application to Ofgem for inclusion in the third cap and floor regime window, as one of seven interconnector projects applying during the window that ran from September 2022 to January 2023.
