Alpha Ventus, Germany’s first offshore wind farm located about 45 km north of Borkum, was officially commissioned on 27 April 2010 and entered full commercial operation at its rated capacity of 60 MW. The 12-turbine test field, comprising six Adwen/AREVA M5000 units on tripod foundations and six Senvion/REpower 5M units on jacket foundations, thus became the first offshore wind farm in German waters to operate commercially and continuously export power to the grid.
