Siemens Energy, in consortium with Fata S.p.A., was contracted to supply two 500 kV HVDC electricity conversion stations for Terna’s Adriatic Link project. The converter stations, located near the existing substations at Fano (Marche) and Cepagatti (Abruzzo), will convert alternating current from the Italian grid to direct current for transmission through the 250 km HVDC link and back again, enabling 1 GW of power transfer between central-southern and central-northern Italy. Siemens Energy’s scope covers the design and engineering of the onshore converter stations, the manufacture and supply of the main HVDC conversion equipment, and turnkey delivery of the stations in coordination with its consortium partner during the project’s construction and commissioning phase.
