Adriatic Link 500 kV HVDC bipolar submarine and underground cable system, total route length ~250 km (210 km subsea, 40 km underground) between Marche and Abruzzo in Italy.
Prysmian Group was awarded a contract worth about €630 million by Terna Rete Italia S.p.A. for the Adriatic Link HVDC interconnection between the Marche and Abruzzo regions of Italy. The turnkey scope covers design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of a 500 kV bipolar HVDC cable system with 1,000 MW capacity, including two parallel XLPE-insulated submarine cables along a 210 km route under the Adriatic Sea and underground P-Laser-insulated cables along a 40 km onshore route connecting the landfalls to the regional substations. Cables will be manufactured at Prysmian’s Arco Felice plant in Italy (submarine) and at Gron in France (underground), and installed using the Leonardo da Vinci and Monna Lisa cable-laying vessels, with cable-laying operations scheduled to conclude by the first half of 2028.
