Intesa Sanpaolo (IMI CIB Division) was one of the counterparties to a set of financing-support agreements signed in July 2025 for Terna’s Adriatic Link HVDC submarine interconnector project, which will connect the electricity hubs of Fano (Marche) and Cepagatti (Abruzzo) across the Adriatic Sea. The agreements were signed alongside the European Investment Bank (EIB), Terna and SACE. According to Terna’s Adriatic Link project page, the agreements totalled €1.5 billion and were intended to support both the development and the construction phases of Adriatic Link. The stated objectives of this financial support package were to strengthen energy exchanges in Central Italy and to facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources into the national electricity system. This role reflects Intesa Sanpaolo’s involvement as a financing partner (via its IMI CIB Division) supporting Terna’s delivery of Adriatic Link, rather than as an engineering, manufacturing, or installation contractor for the physical cable or converter assets.
