Soitec is a French semiconductor materials company that designs and manufactures engineered substrates used as wafers in the production of integrated circuits. Headquartered in Bernin, in France’s Grenoble technology cluster, it develops silicon-on-insulator (SOI) and related materials that are supplied to chipmakers in Asia, Europe and the United States. Its products are used in chips found in smartphones, tablets, computers, IT servers and data centers, as well as electronic components for cars, electric and autonomous vehicles, industrial and medical equipment, connected objects, robots and automation systems. Soitec generated sales of about €891 million in fiscal year 2024–2025 and focuses on three strategic end markets: Mobile Communications, Automotive & Industrial, and Edge & Cloud AI. The company’s portfolio includes radio-frequency SOI for smartphone front-end modules, fully depleted SOI (FD‑SOI) substrates, Piezoelectric‑on‑Insulator (POI) wafers for advanced RF filters, RF gallium nitride (GaN) on silicon for 5G infrastructure and devices, Power‑SOI for power management, Auto SmartSiC substrates for electric vehicles and industrial power electronics, Photonics‑SOI for optical communications, and MEMS‑SOI and Imager‑SOI for sensing and 3D imaging. Most products are manufactured using its proprietary Smart Cut process, which transfers ultra-thin monocrystalline layers to create multi-layer engineered wafers. Soitec operates multiple production lines in France and Singapore and works with partners such as Simgui in China, supported by substrate innovation centers and sales and support offices across Europe, the US and Asia. The company invests heavily in research and development, dedicating around 17% of revenue to R&D and holding more than 4,000 active patents, and embeds sustainability in its strategy through energy‑efficient products and measures to reduce its own environmental footprint.
