Skanska AB is a multinational construction and project development group headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. Founded in 1887 as a concrete products manufacturer, it has grown into a large-scale builder of infrastructure, buildings and real estate assets. The Group organizes its operations into four streams: Construction, Residential Development, Commercial Property Development and Investment Properties, which collaborate and share resources across projects. In 2024 Skanska generated revenue of SEK 177 billion and employed approximately 26,500 people across selected markets in the Nordics, wider Europe and the United States.
In its Construction stream Skanska builds, upgrades and maintains a broad range of assets including roads, bridges, tunnels, railways, airports, power plants, water and wastewater facilities, hospitals, schools and commercial buildings. Residential Development designs and develops single- and multi-family homes for sale, while Commercial Property Development plans, invests in and delivers office, logistics and retail properties, often over multi‑year cycles. The group is active in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark, as well as Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, the UK and North America, operating through local business units such as Skanska Sweden, Skanska UK, Skanska USA and Skanska Romania.
Skanska has a long track record in energy-related and low‑carbon projects, including hydro and wind power plants in several regions and energy‑positive or climate‑neutral buildings such as Powerhouse Brattørkaia in Norway. The company applies ISO 14001 environmental management across all business units and has a group climate plan targeting net‑zero emissions by 2045. It develops low‑carbon materials such as asphalt and concrete and integrates sustainability, health, safety and ethics into its group strategy and project delivery.
