Red Eléctrica de España (REE), the flagship company of the Redeia group, is the sole transmission system operator for the Spanish electricity system. Created in 1985 as the world’s first dedicated TSO, it operates and develops the national high‑voltage transmission grid and acts as system operator, guaranteeing continuity, security and quality of supply. REE plans, designs, builds, maintains and renews a meshed network that exceeds 45,500 km of high‑voltage line circuits, with more than 700 substations and over 200 transformers operating mainly at 400 kV and 220 kV on the peninsula and at 220/132/66 kV in the Balearic and Canary Islands. From its control centres, it supervises real‑time balancing of generation and demand and maximises the secure integration of renewable energy, including through the dedicated renewable control centre (Cecre).
