PGNiG Upstream Norway AS, renamed ORLEN Upstream Norway AS in 2024, is an upstream oil and gas company headquartered in Stavanger, Norway and part of the ORLEN Group. Established in 2007 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo SA (PGNiG), it was pre-qualified as an operator on the Norwegian Continental Shelf in 2010. Its core mandate is to explore for and produce hydrocarbons from fields in the Norwegian Sea, North Sea and Barents Sea, securing stable and diversified gas supplies for the ORLEN Group and supporting Poland’s energy security via deliveries routed through the Baltic Pipe. The company operates from bases in the Stavanger region and Tromsø and employs over 100 experienced professionals from multiple countries.
ORLEN Upstream Norway has built a substantial licence portfolio and is ranked among the top ten hydrocarbon producers on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. It produces from a range of fields including Skarv, Morvin, Vilje, Vale and Gina Krog, and has been involved in development projects such as Snadd and Storklakken. Growth has been driven by participation in Norwegian licensing rounds and acquisitions, notably interests in four fields from Total in 2014, the Storklakken discovery from Aker BP in 2017, INEOS E&P Norge in 2021, LOTOS Exploration and Production Norge in 2022 and KUFPEC Norge in early 2024. The company is also expanding into carbon management as 50% partner and operator of the Polaris CO2 storage licence in the Barents Sea, and supports ORLEN’s climate strategy through electrified, low‑emission production at fields such as Gina Krog, Ormen Lange and Duva.
