Octopus Energy Group is a British energy technology and retail company active across the energy value chain, from supply and flexibility to generation, low‑carbon hardware and software. Founded in 2015 and headquartered in London, it operates gas and electricity retail businesses for households and companies in markets including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan, New Zealand, Australia and the US, and has grown into the UK’s largest domestic energy supplier. The group serves millions of residential and business customers under brands such as Octopus Energy Retail, Octopus Energy for Business and Co‑op Energy, offering a range of fixed, variable and smart tariffs enabled by widespread smart‑meter deployment. It also runs specialist propositions such as time‑of‑use and EV‑focused tariffs, ‘Fan Club’ local wind tariffs, and ‘Zero Bills’ homes that bundle rooftop solar, batteries and heat pumps into long‑term no‑bill energy offers.
The group is structured around several business lines: Octopus Energy Generation, which develops, acquires and manages a multi‑gigawatt portfolio of wind, solar, battery and other renewable assets worth around £7 billion; Octopus Energy Services, which installs smart meters, heat pumps, solar PV, batteries and EV chargers; and Octopus Electric Vehicles, which provides EV leasing and charging solutions and operates the Electroverse public‑charging platform. Its technology arm, Kraken (including Kraken Technologies, Kraken Flex and Kraken Utilities), supplies an AI‑enabled operating system that manages tens of millions of energy, water and telecoms accounts for Octopus and external utilities worldwide. In FY 2023/24 the group reported £12.4 billion of revenue, a net profit of £83 million and net assets of £1.7 billion, and by 2025 employed more than 10,000 people globally.
