Lyse Produksjon AS is the hydropower generation company within the Lyse Group, headquartered in Stavanger, Norway, and wholly owned by Lyse AS. It forms part of Lyse’s Renewable Energy business area alongside Lyse Energi AS, Lyse Strøm AS, Lyse Lading AS and Lyse Energiservice AS. Through this business area Lyse also owns 74.4% of Lyse Kraft DA, which in turn holds 95.21% of RSK DA and a majority stake in Jørpeland Kraft AS, giving Lyse Produksjon a central role in managing a portfolio of roughly 10 TWh of hydropower assets from Haukeli in the north to Åna-Sira in the south of Norway.
Operationally, Lyse Produksjon owns 11 wholly owned hydropower plants and stakes in additional facilities including the Sira-Kvina system, where it holds 41.1%, and the Ulla-Førre and Jørpeland Kraft plants. Historically, its portfolio has generated an average of about 5.7 TWh per year. Its largest development project has been the replacement and upgrading of the Lysebotn hydropower station with Lysebotn II, which uses the existing reservoir and a new tunnel to drive two high‑head Francis turbines providing 370 MW of capacity and an estimated 1.5 TWh of annual production. The plant is designed for highly flexible operation, including fast start–stop capability and condenser mode to provide grid-support services.
Following the creation of Lyse Kraft DA with Hydro Energi, Hydro became operator of Lyse’s fully owned hydropower plants, while Lyse, through Lyse Produksjon and the Renewable Energy business area, retained responsibility for water management and market activities for a 9.5 TWh portfolio and became Norway’s third-largest power market entity. Lyse Produksjon also collaborates with technology providers such as ANDRITZ and Cognite to apply digital tools and predictive maintenance systems to improve production optimization, trading decisions and asset reliability across its hydropower fleet.
