Liander N.V. is a Dutch utility network operator responsible for the regional distribution of electricity and natural gas. As the largest distribution system operator in the Netherlands, it manages the energy network in the provinces of Gelderland and North Holland and in large parts of Flevoland, Friesland and South Holland. Liander operates the gas and electricity networks in six Dutch regions so that energy suppliers can deliver energy to millions of households and businesses. Within the Alliander group, Liander is the main business unit for daily grid operations, managing more than 3.3 million connections and supplying around 3.2 million consumers and companies with gas and electricity as efficiently as possible.
Liander’s core activities cover laying and maintaining cables and pipes, managing the regional electricity and gas grids and related assets, and ensuring safe, reliable and affordable energy delivery. It maintains and renews the existing energy grid, responds to and resolves faults around the clock, and strengthens the network where more capacity is needed through new cables, distribution stations and transformer substations. The company is actively involved in the Dutch energy transition, for example by replacing legacy meters with smart meters, enabling customers to feed in self-generated electricity, and addressing grid congestion as demand and distributed generation rise. In Duiven, Liander’s 24,000 m² head office complex houses laboratories, workshops, technical training centres and offices in an energy‑positive, circularly redeveloped campus that reuses more than 80% of materials and returns surplus solar energy to the local grid, reflecting a strong focus on sustainability and workforce development in support of future-proof energy networks.
