About
Jersey Electricity plc is a vertically integrated power utility and the monopoly supplier of electricity on the island of Jersey. Founded in 1924 and listed on the London Stock Exchange, it imports, generates, transmits, distributes and supplies electricity to around 50,000 domestic and commercial customers, meeting over a third of the island’s total energy requirements. Around 95% of the electricity it supplies is imported from low‑carbon hydro and nuclear sources in France via three undersea cables, including the 100MW Normandie 1 link commissioned in 2016 and Normandie 3 installed in 2014. Remaining electricity is sourced from Jersey’s Energy from Waste plant and, since 2019, from on‑island solar PV, with La Collette Power Station and Queen’s Road generation assets maintained for emergency back‑up.
The group’s core Energy Division is supported by several complementary businesses. Energy Solutions promotes low‑carbon technologies, advises on fuel switching from oil and gas, and supports electric vehicle charging for homes and businesses. JEBS provides mechanical and electrical building services, while Jersey Energy delivers environmental and building‑services consultancy for construction projects. Jendev develops and implements utility software, including the Jenworks multi‑utility billing engine, and Jersey Deep Freeze designs, installs and maintains refrigeration and catering equipment. Jersey Electricity also operates The Powerhouse electrical retail and online store and manages a portfolio of commercial and residential property. Through the Channel Islands Electricity Grid joint venture, it co‑invests in interconnection assets with Guernsey Electricity.
Strategically, Jersey Electricity’s stated vision is to “enable life’s essentials and inspire a zero carbon future.” The company focuses on providing reliable, affordable, low‑carbon electricity and supporting Jersey’s carbon‑neutrality objectives by growing electricity’s share of the energy mix. Key initiatives include expanding on‑island solar generation through partnerships with local landowners, major network reinforcement projects such as the St Helier West Substation and South Hill Switching Station, investment in EV charging infrastructure, and community and environmental programmes such as reforestation and planting projects. In 2025 the group reported revenue of £146.2m and profit before tax of £14.2m on electricity unit sales of 616M kWh.
