HEP-Operator distribucijskog sustava d.o.o. (HEP ODS) is the single electricity distribution system operator in the Republic of Croatia and the largest company within the HEP Group. Headquartered in Zagreb, it holds a licence to perform electricity distribution as a regulated public service and covers 21 distribution areas across Croatia’s 56,594 km² territory. HEP ODS operates, maintains, constructs and develops the distribution network from the interface with the transmission grid to all end-users’ billing and metering points, at voltage levels from 35 kV down to 0.4 kV. It is responsible for the quality and security of supply to all connected customers and performs system-operator duties for the retail market in an impartial, objective and transparent manner.
In 2023 HEP ODS managed 143,130 km of network, 27,178 transformer stations with 23,786 MVA of installed transformation capacity and 2,543,982 metering points. It connected 15,748 distributed generation sources with a combined connection capacity of 839.482 MW, delivered 15,179 GWh of electricity, recorded peak load of 3,061 MW and employed 6,789 workers. The company reported total income of EUR 537.3 million, total assets of EUR 2,539.3 million and profit before tax of EUR 13.3 million. Strategic investment is focused on medium- and low-voltage networks, smart metering and smart grid development to reduce losses, improve reliability and enable higher penetration of distributed renewable generation. HEP ODS leads grid connection processes for new users and producers, including prosumers, and participates in national and EU projects on smart grids and flexibility, supported by robust mission-critical communications and SCADA infrastructure.
