Fonden Langelands Elforsyning

Fonden Langelands Elforsyning is a locally anchored energy foundation on the Danish island of Langeland that combines ownership of electricity infrastructure and energy activities with philanthropic support for the local community. The foundation is the parent of Veksel A/S, the regional electricity distribution company based in Rudkøbing, and is associated with the retail electricity brand Ø/strøm. Historically, it has acted as one of two key utility actors on the island alongside Langeland Forsyning A/S, supplying power to households and businesses, operating street lighting and wind-related activities, and engaging in broader local sponsorships, including support for sports clubs, children’s camps and cultural initiatives. The foundation plays an active role in Langeland’s green transition. It initiated a project to establish five public electric vehicle fast‑charging stations across the island, implemented in partnership with the non‑profit Go2Green and supplier Sperto, with charging powered by local wind turbines. Individual quick‑charging sites, such as the 150 kW DC charger in Humble, are explicitly set up by the foundation and open to users regardless of their electricity provider. In addition, Fonden Langelands Elforsyning has been a minority financial investor in the Danish energy trading group Energi Danmark A/S, although it has since exited the shareholder group. Strategically, the foundation is part of the emerging multiforsyning structure Langeland Energi & Forsyning, which consolidates service functions across electricity, wind, water, wastewater, waste and recycling. While operational customer service and support functions are being integrated to realise estimated annual synergies of around DKK 3 million and maintain roughly 80 local utility jobs, the governance and purpose of the foundation remain unchanged, with continued separation between its supply-related activities and its role in distributing grants and sponsorships to local associations and communities on Langeland, Siø and Strynø.
