Fagne AS is a Norwegian power distribution company and wholly owned subsidiary of Haugaland Kraft AS. Headquartered in Haugesund, it develops, operates and maintains the regional electricity grid across more than 5,000 square kilometres in Haugalandet in southwest Norway, including Sunnhordland, inner Ryfylke and parts of Hardanger. The company manages critical infrastructure that supplies electricity to around 150,000 residents, with a network whose total line length is described as exceeding that of Norway’s national road system. Fagne’s grid includes overhead lines, underground and submarine cables, and substations up to 132 kV, and the company provides a range of customer services linked to network tariffs, billing, grid connection and capacity increases, as well as information and handling of outages and planned interruptions.
Operationally, Fagne is focused on both capacity expansion and digitalisation of its network. It is undertaking major grid reinforcement projects such as a new 132 kV line from Ølen via Våg to Bratthammar to strengthen supply on Haugalandet, a new 132 kV overhead line between Bø and Meland on Karmøy to replace an older 66 kV line and meet rising demand, and new submarine cables between Stord and Bømlo to improve supply security and transfer capacity. In Haugesund, it is upgrading and strengthening a 2.7 kilometre underground cable link between Hemmingstad and Flotmyr. Fagne is digitising its entire regional transmission grid with Heimdall Power’s physical and virtual sensors to monitor real-time capacity, has selected SafeBase’s SafeMon system for advanced substation monitoring following a detailed risk and vulnerability analysis, and uses drone-based inspection with Stellaire for its line network. It also participates in the SecurEL research centre and in a framework agreement with AFRY to strengthen grid robustness, automation and long-term energy resilience in the region.
