EnergiMidt was a Danish regional energy and communications company headquartered in Silkeborg, serving around 230,000 customers in a supply area of roughly 7,500 km² in central Jutland bounded by Limfjorden in the north, Djursland in the east and Jelling in the south. Established in its modern form in the early 2000s, it operated as a customer-owned cooperative with its supreme authority vested in a representative assembly elected by consumers. Over time, its business volume and workforce – exceeding 650 employees across the head office in Silkeborg and operations centres in Skive and Herning – almost tripled through a combination of organic growth and acquisitions.
The company’s activities spanned electricity retail and distribution, fibre broadband, and a range of technical and administrative services. Beyond multi-utility and fibre operations, EnergiMidt provided electrical installation services, sold and installed heat pumps and solar PV systems, and offered energy-efficiency consulting to both private households and commercial customers. It aimed to be the preferred supplier of energy solutions and broadband-based communication and entertainment in its core Midtjylland market, while selectively pursuing national opportunities where customer potential justified it. Internationally, EnergiMidt participated in projects focused on energy consulting and renewable energy in Eastern Europe and in solar PV-related activities in Southern Europe. Related entities such as EnergiMidt Net A/S and EnergiMidt Handel A/S, based in Silkeborg, also operated in the utilities sector.
EnergiMidt played a notable role in rolling out fibre broadband infrastructure and in promoting climate-friendly technologies such as solar power and heat pumps, including cooperation with external module suppliers. In 2016 EnergiMidt merged with Himmerlands Elforsyning (HEF) to form Eniig, and in 2019 Eniig merged with SE (Syd Energi) to create Norlys. EnergiMidt’s electricity networks, fibre assets, customer base and advisory competences now form part of Norlys, which is described as Denmark’s largest integrated energy and telecommunications cooperative.
