Ellevio AB (publ) is a Swedish electricity network company and one of the country’s largest energy utilities, supplying power to close to one million customers, of which the majority are households. Headquartered in Stockholm, it owns, operates and develops regional and local electricity grids across central and southern Sweden, including Dalarna, Gävleborg, Värmland, Skaraborg–Närke, the west coast regions of Halland and Bohuslän, and the Stockholm area, as well as grid connections for wind power in Markbygden in Norrbotten. In 2023 Ellevio’s networks comprised over 80,000 kilometres of lines and cables and distributed around 24 TWh of electricity, with reliability levels close to 99.99 percent.
The group is organised into two business areas: Electricity Distribution and Energy Solutions. Electricity Distribution, operated within Ellevio AB, manages regulated network operations, connects new wind and solar generation, and reinforces capacity for industrial sites, data centres and large loads such as Volvo’s planned battery factory in Mariestad and EcoDataCenter in Borlänge. Energy Solutions, operated through Ellevio Energy Solutions AB, designs, builds, owns and operates energy infrastructure for business customers, including grid-scale battery storage, backup power, charging infrastructure and turnkey electrical plants; projects include large battery systems in Grums and Kungsbacka to provide stabilising services such as Fast Frequency Reserve to the Nordic grid.
Ellevio invests several billion SEK annually to renew, digitise, underground and expand its grids, including major substation projects at Värtan and Skanstull in Stockholm and new regional grid capacity in Hälsingland and Gävleborg. The company finances this programme through green bonds and green loans and operates under Sweden’s revenue‑regulated, natural‑monopoly framework. It partners with developers and investors such as Deep Wind Offshore, OX2 and Ingka Investments on grid connections for large wind farms in Swedish waters and onshore, and positions its electrification and flexibility solutions as enablers of Sweden’s transition to a fossil‑free, electrified economy.
