Doran Consulting is an independent civil and structural engineering consultancy founded in 1953 and based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The company delivers economic, innovative and sustainable engineering solutions across multiple sectors, providing civil, structural, health and safety (CDM) advisory, water, wastewater, traffic and other specialised engineering services to a wide client base in the UK, Ireland and internationally. Its technical directors lead design teams working across built environment, infrastructure, public health, marine and river, renewable energy and specialist services, with an emphasis on impartial advice and integrated, multidisciplinary delivery.
The firm has a significant track record in major infrastructure and energy projects. In the power sector it led the structural design team for the buildings associated with the 500 MW East–West Interconnector HVDC link between Ireland and Wales, and has developed specialist expertise in HVDC transmission links more broadly. In renewable energy and low‑carbon projects, Doran Consulting provides civil and structural design for energy‑from‑waste facilities, including anaerobic digestion, waste‑to‑energy and waste‑to‑fuel plants, and has worked on Dogger Bank offshore wind farm substations and multiple energy recovery facilities across the UK. It has also acted as lead designer for offshore wind turbine assembly facilities at Green Port Hull’s Alexandra Dock and at Belfast Harbour, covering quay walls, reclamation, heavy‑duty pavements and associated marine infrastructure.
Beyond energy, Doran Consulting is involved in large commercial and transport schemes such as the City Quays development for Belfast Harbour Commissioners and the Belfast Transport Hub, where it provides civil, structural and Principal Designer services. The company is also progressing a digital transformation of its design workflows, including adoption of Causeway Live Design to integrate infrastructure design and support efficient project delivery.
