Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc., headquartered in Nagoya, Japan, is an energy company established in 1951 that focuses on power generation, energy-related services, and overseas business. As of March 31, 2025, its primary business activities include renewable energy, nuclear power, overseas operations, and community support infrastructure–related business. The company owns and operates a diversified portfolio of power generation facilities totaling 9,192.8 MW across 213 locations, including 5,477 MW of hydroelectric capacity at 200 locations, 3,617 MW of nuclear capacity at one location, and smaller wind, solar, and biomass plants. In the Chubu region it generates, procures, and supplies electricity through hydro, thermal, nuclear, and renewable sources, supported by networks of substations, towers, and related systems, and it also provides electric network–related services and comprehensive energy services in the gas and power fields.
Following Japan’s electricity system reforms, Chubu Electric Power spun off its power transmission and distribution business to Chubu Electric Power Grid Co., Inc. and its retail electricity business to Chubu Electric Power Miraiz Co., Inc., while retaining generation, nuclear, renewables, overseas business, and community infrastructure initiatives. The company has overseas offices in Washington, D.C., London, and Doha and engages in overseas consulting and investment, including projects in Europe and Asia. It has expanded into information and communications and on-site energy solutions, and pursues partnerships and investments such as its strategic relationship with Lotus Infrastructure Partners to target energy infrastructure opportunities in North America. Chubu Electric Power positions decarbonization as a core priority, with a Zero Emissions Challenge 2050 aimed at net zero CO2 emissions, and participates in offshore and renewable projects including Japan’s first commercial floating wind project at Goto and offshore wind development in the Netherlands through its relationship with Eneco and Ecowende.
