Aibel is an energy industry service company that designs, builds, maintains and upgrades platforms and other critical infrastructure across the oil, gas and offshore wind sectors. Headquartered in the Stavanger/Sandnes region of Norway, it provides engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCI/EPCIC) services covering the full project life cycle, from concept studies and front-end engineering and design to modifications, maintenance, operational support and decommissioning. The business is organised into three units: Modifications and yard services, Field development, and Offshore wind. Aibel works on both newbuilds and existing onshore and offshore facilities and is active on a large share of installations on the Norwegian continental shelf, supported by long-term maintenance and modification frame agreements.
Close to 4,700 employees are located at offices and engineering centres in Norway, Thailand and Singapore, including sites in Stavanger, Bergen, Oslo/Asker, Haugesund, Hammerfest and Harstad, and in Southeast Asia. The company operates three major yards with substantial prefabrication and construction capacity: Haugesund in Norway and Laem Chabang and Map Ta Phut in Thailand. Aibel has delivered major field development projects such as the Johan Sverdrup drilling and P2 process platforms, power-from-shore infrastructure, and modules and upgrades for FPSOs and fixed platforms. It also supplies offshore wind converter platforms and related infrastructure for European projects, and undertakes electrification projects for offshore and onshore oil and gas plants.
Strategically, Aibel is shifting its activity mix towards renewable energy and electrification while continuing to support oil and gas clients. Its sustainability approach emphasises aligning with UN sustainability goals, increasing the share of renewables in its order backlog, and reducing emissions through electrification projects and more efficient commissioning practices. The company reports annually on sustainability, maintains a documented environmental management approach, and has policies covering human rights, labour standards, anti-corruption and transparency in its operations and supply chain.
