A/S Norske Shell is a Norwegian oil and gas company headquartered in Sola municipality in Rogaland, outside Stavanger. It forms part of the wider Shell group of energy and petrochemical companies and has been active in Norway since 1912, evolving from a coastal distributor of petroleum products into an upstream operator focused on exploration and production of oil and gas. A company presentation notes around 430 employees in Norway and ranks A/S Norske Shell among the country’s largest corporate taxpayers and companies by turnover in 2023. Its stated priorities in Norway include supplying gas to Europe, mastering the full upstream value chain and exploring and developing new business areas.
On the Norwegian continental shelf, A/S Norske Shell holds interests in multiple production licences and serves as operator on selected licences, including 1235, 1253 and 250. It is the operator of the Ormen Lange gas field in the Norwegian Sea, a deepwater development that produces very dry gas via subsea templates tied back 120 kilometres to the onshore Nyhamna processing plant, with gas exported to the UK and continental Europe through the Langeled system. To extend Ormen Lange’s life and increase recovery, the company is implementing subsea gas compression, including a major EPCI frame agreement with OneSubsea and Subsea7 for a 32 MW subsea multiphase compression system installed at about 850 metres water depth. At Nyhamna, A/S Norske Shell acts as technical service provider on behalf of Gassco and is partnering with Kongsberg Digital to deploy a dynamic digital twin of the facility to support production optimisation, power management and reduced carbon footprint. The company also engages in long-term service collaborations for Draugen and Nyhamna and participates in a shared emergency response association on the Norwegian continental shelf.
