Royal SMIT Transformers B.V. is a Dutch manufacturer of large power transformers and related equipment based in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Founded in 1913 and now part of the SGB‑SMIT Group, it designs, produces and tests large and heavy power transformers, phase‑shifting transformers and reactors, including units above 100 MVA up to 1,200 MVA and at extra‑high voltage levels. Royal SMIT’s transformers rank among the largest in the world and are developed and manufactured in Nijmegen, from where they are transported to the port of Rotterdam for onward shipment to customers worldwide. To guarantee the high quality of its large power transformers, the company applies a proprietary single‑winding‑clamping construction and maintains ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications for quality management, environmental management and occupational health and safety. Royal SMIT’s products serve power generation, transmission and distribution applications, including grid and primary substations, and are supplied to transmission system operators and generation companies in markets such as the United Kingdom and other deregulated utility markets. The company collaborates with Power System Partners in the UK, combining Royal SMIT transformers with local engineering capabilities to deliver turnkey solutions, and relies on a long‑standing logistics partnership with Mammoet for the regular movement of large transformers from its Nijmegen factory to North Sea ports.
