Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke GmbH (NSW) is a Germany‑based manufacturer of submarine and special cable systems and engineered plastic products, headquartered in Nordenham. Founded in 1899, the company has produced underwater cables for over a century and laid its first transatlantic submarine telecommunication cable in 1904 with a length of about 7,993 kilometres. NSW has evolved into a global supplier of submarine telecommunication cable systems, submarine power cables, special offshore cables, aerial telecommunication cables and intelligent plastic products. At the Nordenham site it manufactures both cables and plastic products and employs around 450 people who support customers worldwide.
Historically the submarine competence centre of General Cable Corporation, NSW became the competence centre for submarine cables within that group and, following the acquisition of General Cable, was integrated into the Prysmian Group in 2018 as the group’s submarine telecom centre of excellence. Its activities cover development, manufacturing and sales of offshore energy cables, special and communications cables, winding wires, nets, belts and environmental products, as well as project planning, project management, and repair and maintenance of cable systems and system elements. NSW’s portfolio includes fibre‑optic submarine cables and accessories supplied on a point‑to‑point or turnkey basis to investors and world‑leading network operators, and power cables for offshore wind farms, tidal power plants and wave‑energy converter farms, together with custom underwater cables for the offshore industry. The company also develops and produces POLY‑NET surface protection nets and spacer grids as part of its plastics business.
NSW operates globally from its Nordenham headquarters and regional sales offices, including in Great Britain, and is a member of the International Cable Protection Committee. Its management systems are certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 50001, reflecting a structured focus on quality, environmental management, energy efficiency, and occupational health and safety.
