Caunton Engineering is a privately owned UK structural steelwork contractor founded in 1969 and based at Moorgreen Industrial Park near Nottingham. The company designs, fabricates, paints and erects primary and secondary structural steelwork for projects across the construction industry, operating nationwide and exporting on selected schemes. It works across sectors including energy and waste-to-energy facilities, nuclear, industrial and logistics warehouses, rail infrastructure, car parks, education, health, offices, residential, leisure, retail and data centres, and has supplied steelwork for major developments such as Unilever’s headquarters in Leatherhead, Teva’s UK head office and logistics hub near Castleford, London 2012 Olympic venues, the Museum of Liverpool, large distribution parks and regeneration projects. Caunton can deliver projects up to around 15,000 tonnes of steel in a single contract and fabricates more than 40,000 tonnes per year.
The company provides an integrated service with in-house engineering, 3D modelling, detailing, manufacturing, painting and erection, supported by an ERP-driven CAD/CAM environment and extensive CNC and robotic production equipment. Facilities include the Cut Shack CNC centre, conveyorised production lines, tube profiling, submerged arc welding, a 37,000 sq ft paint shop offering shot blasting, intumescent and other coatings, and a secondary steelwork and small buildings workshop, with lifting capacity up to 30 tonnes. Caunton employs about 250 people and runs an accredited Apprentice Academy with a model production line and welding training, supplying a significant share of its workforce. It holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 3834-2 and EN 1090 EXC4 certifications, is a Gold Status member of the Steel Construction Sustainability Charter, has published a carbon roadmap to achieve Net Zero by 2050, and has invested heavily in regenerating the former Moorgreen Colliery site and in local skills, education partnerships and community initiatives.
