Fata S.p.A., established in Turin in 1936 as Fabrica Apparecchi de Sollevamento & Transporto ed Affini, has evolved from a manufacturer of materials handling and storage and retrieval systems into an engineering company delivering large and complex industrial projects on a turnkey EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) basis. Historically active in automated machinery for factories, foundries and industrial plants, and in non‑automation businesses such as aluminium casting, rolling and conversion plants, it expanded through European subsidiaries covering Italy, France, Spain, the UK and Germany. Formerly a wholly owned company of Finmeccanica (now Leonardo), with around 200 employees and roughly EUR 150 million of annual revenues at the time of its 2015 sale, Fata is now part of the Danieli Group, focusing on industrial plant engineering and proprietary technologies for steel and metals processing.
From its headquarters in Pianezza (Turin), Fata operates worldwide across power generation, energy infrastructure, industrial and diversified plants. In thermal power it executes gas‑fired open‑cycle and combined‑cycle plants and district heating schemes in Italy, Croatia, Iran and South Africa. In energy infrastructure it is EPC contractor, in consortium with Siemens Energy, for Italy’s HVDC Tyrrhenian Link and Adriatic Link converter stations supporting grid flexibility and coal phase‑out. The company has an extensive track record in smelters and downstream facilities for aluminium, including rolling mills, casthouses, anode bake furnaces and complete smelters in Oman, Qatar, Russia, China, India, Iran, Ukraine, Mexico and Italy, as well as chlor‑alkali, packaging, port and mechanical plants in the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Africa. Recent activities include concentrating solar power plants in Sicily and green hydrogen projects integrating renewable generation, storage, grid interconnection and energy management. Fata underpins these activities with ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certified management systems and a stated focus on health and safety, environmental compliance, local content and structured vendor qualification.
