Morrow Contracts, trading as the Morrow Group, is a Northern Ireland‑based utility and civil engineering company focused on delivering essential infrastructure for clean water, wastewater, electricity and full‑fibre broadband networks, alongside traffic and works management services. Founded in 1975 by John Morrow to carry out local farm excavation and civil engineering work, the business has grown into one of Northern Ireland’s leading utilities and civil engineering firms, responding to tens of thousands of utility call‑outs each year and maintaining and enhancing under‑surface and overhead networks that provide everyday services to communities.
From its base at Gilnahirk in Belfast, Morrow delivers large‑scale utility contracts across the UK and Ireland, operating from multiple depots and a fleet of more than 300 company‑owned vehicles. The company’s history includes long‑standing plant hire and civil contracts for NI Water Service, Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) and the DRD Rivers Agency, as well as sewer laying and maintenance, watermain installation, deep trench sewer construction and street furniture works. Project experience spans major water supply schemes, electricity cabling upgrades, the Carn Hill wind farm cabling project serving a ‘green’ generation facility, and the Moyle electricity interconnector linking Northern Ireland and Scotland, alongside extensive full‑fibre broadband deployment for Openreach and Fibrus. By 2002 it employed around 100 people and it now reports over 400 skilled operators and administrators.
Morrow has been an early adopter of integrated management systems, historically achieving ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 and now holding ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 50001 certifications. These are supported by accreditation under schemes such as Acclaim, Considerate Constructors and Cyber Essentials. The company emphasises safety, quality, environmental protection and energy management, invests in technology, training and value engineering, and partners with like‑minded suppliers to minimise carbon footprint while improving network reliability and customer service.
