Projected commercial operations date for the Yell Subsea Cable, a 220 kV HVAC subsea + onshore connection between a new Yell substation (central/north Yell) and a planned mainland Shetland "substation hub" in the Sullom Voe/Toft area. Per Shetnews 2026-05-06 reporting verbatim Statkraft's grid connection date: Energy Isles and Beaw Field wind farms (the two windfarms the cable enables) have a grid connection date of late 2032, anchoring the cable's commissioning target to Q4 2032. SSEN Transmission is the cable developer; marine survey programme underway in Yell Sound May 2026; marine licence application expected 2028. Mainland landfall options under consideration: Toft Ness, Grunnavoe, Mossbank. Yell-side landing options: Burravoe, West Sandwick, South Wick of Sound. The cable will also provide future connection capacity for potential load growth on Yell and the Northern Isles per SSEN's consultation booklet. Treat as developer's stated target — supersede if SSEN/Statkraft publish a slip.
