The Western HVDC Link returned to service on or around 27 July 2021 after the cable fault that had taken the link out of service since 18 June. Per the Ofgem closure decision of 30 November 2021 (OFG1161, footnote 4), this was the most recent fault on the link as of Ofgem's final decision document at the time of closure: "We are aware of multiple faults on the link since its commissioning, including most recently between 18 June and 27th July". Restoration to service required offshore mobilisation by Prysmian to locate, joint and rebury the affected cable section before re-energisation of the 2,250 MW bipolar HVDC link between Hunterston (Scotland) and Flintshire Bridge (Wales).
