On 9 April 2026 Terna announced the completion of the laying of the eastern branch of the Tyrrhenian Link HVDC interconnector between Campania and Sicily, marking the conclusion of marine works on the 490 km east route. The second pole, of the same length as the first cable, was installed by Prysmian's cable-laying vessel Monna Lisa from Campania towards Sicily, officially completing the east section's two-cable route. Combined with the first cable laid by the Leonardo da Vinci in May 2025, the east branch required 150 days of naval activity in total, with advanced technologies and continuous monitoring of the route. Onshore construction continues at the converter stations in Eboli (Salerno) and Termini Imerese (Palermo), which will be connected to the landings at Torre Tuscia Magazzeno and Fiumetorto via approximately 15 km and 10 km of buried cable respectively. The east branch is one of three Terna projects supported by the European REPowerEU programme with €500 million of EU funding.
