On 5 October 2016, the BSH approved the SeeAnlV Änderung to the Trianel Windpark Borkum II (Phase 2) planning documents, accommodating the switch from the originally-consented Adwen AD 5-116 turbines (5 MW, 116 m rotor diameter) to Senvion 6.3M152 turbines (6.35 MW, 152 m rotor diameter) on monopile foundations. The original 13 June 2008 BSH Genehmigung covered the whole 80-WEA project; Phase 2 (32 turbines, 203.2 MW total) was the second-half build, and the larger Senvion turbines required amended planning documents covering the increased nominal capacity and rotor footprint. Phase 2 construction began Autumn 2018 (final investment decision April 2017 with EUR 800 million budget); the last turbine was installed on 17 May 2020 and full commercial operation followed on 3 July 2020, though Senvion's 2019 insolvency caused significant delays.
