On 4 October 2022, Polish and Swedish transmission system operators Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE) and Svenska Kraftnät jointly conducted underwater inspection tests on the SwePol Link HVDC submarine cable to verify it had not been damaged by the 26 September 2022 Nord Stream gas pipeline sabotage, which occurred approximately 500 metres from the cable corridor. SwePol Link had been offline since 12 September 2022 for previously planned technical maintenance, so it was not possible to confirm immediately whether the nearby underwater explosions had caused damage to the interconnector. The conducted tests unambiguously confirmed the explosion had no impact on the electricity connection, and the cable was declared intact and ready to be returned to market participants on conclusion of the planned outage.
