Reach Subsea is SSEN Transmission's offshore survey contractor for the Shetland 2 HVDC Link, delivering a six-month integrated offshore survey campaign running from late February to August 2026. The scope spans geophysical and geotechnical investigations across the prospective ~330 km, 2 GW subsea HVDC cable route between Shetland and the Aberdeenshire coast, gathering seabed morphology, sediment structure, benthic characterisation and habitat mapping data. Reach Subsea sub-contracted the geotechnical element of the scope (seabed characterisation, sediment analysis, core penetration testing) to GeoForce Technical Services (part of Oceanscan and the wider Venterra Group), announced on 25 March 2026. The Reach Subsea contract underpins route optimisation and installation design ahead of the planned marine licence pre-application consultation in 2027 and marine licence determination in 2028.
