In 2011, the French State launched a national tender (appel d’offres) for offshore wind power installations, including the zone off Saint-Nazaire. This competitive process aimed to support France’s renewable energy objectives by awarding development rights for a 480 MW offshore wind farm comprising 80 turbines of 6 MW each. The tender established the regulatory framework and selection process under which the Saint-Nazaire project consortium was later designated to develop the offshore wind farm and its grid connection.
